Flutter measuring tapes sold to the professional community may have residual levels of time-base errors that are too high to allow reliable measurements. This paper describes a technique for recording cassettes with very minimal residual flutter. A recorder with a transport servo system was utilized to create high-speed records for measurements at standard speeds. The recorder exhibits low inherent flutter app development, exceeding the manufacturer’s expectations. The high-speed methodology demonstrates that a considerable improvement in the recording of flutter measurement tapes is achievable, especially when compared to the standard practice of recording at playback velocity.
